So I went shoe shopping...

A friend at work bought these gorgeous riding boots from Winners a couple weeks ago and I just had to have them. So I went to Winners and found them. Problem was, there were many shoes that caught my eye and I had to try them all on. I ended up buying four pairs of shoes, two pairs of jeans and a men's shirt. A very successful day I would say!

I've always wanted riding boots and dreamed about owning a pair of Hermes but that's too expensive for something that will inevitably get dirty and worn. But this pair is just as good; dark chocolate brown, soft buttery leather on the outside, soft suede on the inside and a leather clasp on the outside. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and go perfectly with the new pair of jeans I bought. I've never shopped at Winners before but now I have a new favorite store.

Next on my list, a pair of tartan and suede lace-up booties. Pair these with some neutral colours and everyone will be staring at your feet. It helps that the heel is 5 inches which makes me stand at about 6 feet tall. You may notice the sticker on the sole; Winners pastes these things on with so much glue they are impossible to rip off.

Then I realized I needed some new classic black pumps so I found a pair of Calvin Kleins in suede. They take me up five inches too. I haven't worn them out yet so I'm not too sure about how comfortable they are but my guess is they will probably give me blisters. And it's hard to tell in the photo but the heel and sole are embossed crocodile.

And after all this I figured I needed some more practical aka lower heeled shoes for when I want to rest my feet. Enter brown zip-up booties with a square toe. Still stylish but not as perilous as the others.

Relaxed & Casual

I am so happy it is weekend. Its been a busy week for me. The weather is getting pretty cold each day. I really don't have much to do today. I will probably be indoors all day watching Sex And The City The Movie, which I just got today and Gossip Girls re-runs.

Have a wonderful weekend !!!!
:)

Chanel S/S 09: Shopping bags, guitar cases and other gorgeousness

I always look forward to the Chanel show because I can expect gorgeous clothes, perfect tailoring, great bags and a modern take on the classic tweed suit.

This collection in a way was a summary of all the trends seen this season: Sheer materials, jumpsuits, metallics, crop tops, harem pants, lingerie and statement jewelry.

My favorite part of the collection was a bag: a cute take on the Chanel shopping bag made in leather.

The collection brought out all of the elements of classic Chanel: Tweed, the 2.55 (albeit with the chain handles on the side of the purse), camellias, bows and suits. But it was Lagerfeld's modern additions- sparkly embroidery, bolero jackets, black patent swimsuits and ruffled sleeves that made it special.

Bags
I have never seen a designer make a leather version of their shopping bag. It's genius. Brilliant marketing and I bet the leather is buttery soft and will sell for thousands.

Sheer
It seems that every designer has jumped on the sheer bandwagon this season but Lagerfeld does it in a modest way; pairing it with a statement necklace and lace.

Harem pants
These can only work on models but I love that they are paired with a tweed jacket.

Classic suit
The belt necklace is so rock and roll and really gives this suit a young edge.

Statement necklace
Black jewelry doesn't get enough credit and I think it takes an incredible piece for black to really shine through such as this one.
Statement jewelry

Feathers
Feathers was all over the runway last season but is still going strong now.

Ruffled skirt
It's a bit folksy especially with that guitar but in a chic gypsy sort of way.

Crop top
This crop top works because it's under a small jacket and a metallic sheer top.

Maybe Karlie Kloss isn't the best

This spread is from UK Vogue's November 08 issue. Here we have one of my favorite newbie models, Karlie Kloss, dressed up in clothes that only women twice her age should be wearing. But nevermind that. While I think Karlie has a great look, her facial expressions here are repetitive and boring.

Like this one. Her smile looks so forced and unfriendly. It actually scares me. Get those baby teeth away!

And this one. Her face looks like it was photoshopped on from the previous photo. Aren't models supposed to diversity their looks? Didn't they learn anything from America's Next Top Model?

And then there's this. Typical pouty face that just doesn't convince me. I want to believe that you are mad to be in this $3000 dress but the face fails to possess any emotion.

I'm sorry but only Coco Rocha can do the open mouth crazy pout. Learn from the pros, Karlie.

Did Karlie mistake this for a Teen Vogue spread?

Model.Live episode 9 recap

The girls are in Paris for Fashion Week. For Madeline and Austria, this is a crucial time because they didn't get casted in Milan and are hoping to ramp up their careers in the fashion capital of the world. Cato has it so easy because she has "the look."

I guess black women and short hair are out in Paris too because Austria and Madeline just can't get a break. Austria is coached by IMG to act confident when meeting casting directors. They must be getting worried because Austria looks tired and haggard; not very attractive to designers.

The girl sits there mutely and tries to comprehend what is going on; if she doesn't get casted for shows, she doesn't get paid which means she can't pay IMG which means she will be in a lot of debt. Her manager muses that she might be a bit young to handle all this but defends IMG by saying that the girls aren't forced to work in the "model army." Austria realizes that she is on a short leash but looks too tired to care.

Madeline on the other hand is trying her hardest to impress the casting directors. She jokes around with them, gives them hugs and acts happy and confident. She feels like Paris will be her break because she has been here before and knows people.

Unfortunately even though the designers like her and act really friends, she doesn't get cast for any shows. This often happens in fashion; a girl might be gorgeous but if she doesn't fit in with the show's "look" of the season (it changes all the time. Short hair is in one season and out the next) then she won't get booked.

Poor Madeline tries on seven dresses for Fatima Lopes and still doesn't get booked. And even though she "looked gorgeous" at Vivienne Westwood and Issey Miyake, they don't book her either.

This is one of the frustrations of being a new model because there isn't much they can do when they don't fit the vision of a casting director. Madeline cries a few times in frustration and says "Everybody's so sorry, and they love me, but everyone wants Cato." My heart. It breaks.
But at least she gets to do an editorial shoot.

Cato has a pretty easy time; she books a show and gets to see her boyfriend. Life is so easy isn't it Cato?

Next week will show how the rest of Paris Fashion Week shapes up for the trio: Will Cato book a big show? Will Austria and Madeline book any?
