Gap Design Editions

The Gap has teamed up with the finalists of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund to create unique white shirts. What really interests me is the wonderful advertisement (seen in Vogue April 2008) with the biggest models of the year: We've got Stam, Irina, Du Juan, Lily, Doutzen, Chanel Iman, Catherine McNeil and Anja Rubik wearing designs by 3.1 Phillip Lim (omg!!!), Michael Bastian, threeASFOUR, Band of Outsiders and jewellery by Philip Crangi. It's a dream come true. The only problem is that the website only lists U.S. stores that carry the limited editions t-shirts and jewelry. What about Canada? I'm going to find out and get back to you, especially since a friend of mine just e-mailed me about her lust for this gorgeous Philip Lim high-necked, triple-layered shirt. (Photo: Gap)

Update: The Design Editions will be available in Canada this Thursday! Who's going to line up at the Eaton Centre?

Tired of Marc Jacobs? Too bad!

Marc Jacobs is in the news practically everyday and yet people cannot get enough of him. Fashion reporter Dana Thomas even calls him the most powerful and influential person in the fashion industry. I'm not sure about that- but I do know is that I would wait three hours to see a Marc Jacobs show. Family be damned.
Read about him and his trainer named "Easy" in GQ magazine. Here's a tasty snippet: "Consider the highlights of the past year: a porn star crowing online about threesomes with Jacobs and Jacobs’s former-escort boyfriend; a tune-up in rehab; allegations that his line paid bribes for use of New York’s 26th Street Armory for his shows; then starting those shows at least two hours late, turning the normally adoring fashion press into a pitchfork-wielding mob."

France on the way to banning skinny models; pigs seen flying

Yes my friends, it looks like the fashion centre of the world is very close to getting rid of the bony bitches. The Wall Street Journal reports: "The French parliament's lower house adopted a groundbreaking bill Tuesday that would make it illegal for anyone -- including fashion magazines, advertisers and Web sites -- to publicly incite extreme thinness.

The National Assembly approved the bill in a series of votes Tuesday, after the legislation won unanimous support from the ruling conservative UMP party. It goes to the Senate in the coming weeks."

I wonder what kind of standards and tests models will be placed under for them to be deemed "not skinny." The bill is a bit vague on that issue. I can't picture how this is going to work...will the models have to weigh more than 100 pounds? Will size four become the new two? This is crazy talk!

And, get this: "It would give judges the power to imprison and fine offenders up to $47,000 if found guilty of "inciting others to deprive themselves of food" to an "excessive" degree."

Naturally, the fashion industry is in an uproar. I can't picture Karl Lagerfeld giving in to this law.
Didier Grumbach, president of the influential French Federation of Couture, said: "Never will we accept in our profession that a judge decides if a young girl is skinny or not skinny. That doesn't exist in the world, and it will certainly not exist in France."

The problem is that Paris Fashion Week makes a lot of money and the law overlooks the age and weight of models because super-thin, young girls are in high-demand. I have a feeling that this law isn't going to do much. Real change has to come from the designers and magazine editors.

The Hills recap

- Have the producers run out of money to give these kids to dine out? Heidi and Audrina have lunch at, get this, the Epic cafeteria. Hope they make good poutine.

- Audrina gives Heidi the funniest look when Heidi asks her if she wants to hang out. It was a "Urk. Lauren will kill me" look. Priceless.

- I wish I could get a job just by walking into an office and start working there like I already have the job. Lauren walks into People's Revolution and starts doing work even though she doesn't have a job there. Good call, Lauren. Now you can skip the interview and just annoy people enough to get a job!

- Kelly puts Whitney and Lauren in their place by saying "Oh my God you guys are so slow!" It was a sweet moment.

- Jessica (a girl who works at People's Revolution) gives Lauren the evil eye.

- Stephanie realizes she made a mistake by letting Spencer live with her when he used up all the turkey for a sandwich.

- Heidi and Audrina go out to a club (better hope the producers don't phone Lauren to tell her what's going down) and what a coincidence! Spencer shows up!

- "Something's about to go down," says Heidi when she sees Spencer talking to two ladies. The producers high-five each other.

- Heidi yells at Spencer but it's not that exciting.

- The next day Lauren questions Audrina about her night and you can see the fear in Audrina's face.

- Is it just me or does the Bolthouse office change every season?

- "How can you love someone so much and hate someone at the same time?" Heidi muses. Strangely enough, I feel the same way about this show.

- Lauren works backstage with Whitney at a fashion show People's Revolution is helping out with. Lots of "good work Lauren" compliments. I sense a job offer coming.

- Was that Kirstie Alley in the front row??

- Heidi and Spencer argue in a car. For once, Spencer actually makes sense: "People call it a breakup not a relationship vacation." Heidi pouts her trout lips at him.

- Kelly Cutrone offers Lauren a job. Qu'elle surprise! Jessica looks worried. Lauren and Whitney are together at last!

I feel kind of dirty for posting this but...

who am I kidding? I love The Hills so why not post about Heidi Montag's collection Heidiwood? The media-friendly reality-show star debuted her line for Anchor Blue on Friday and if what she was wearing is any indication of how the collection is going to look, be prepared for zebra prints and short-shorts. Well who knows, maybe she will be the next Roberto Cavalli? Ok no seriously, the collection looks horrible. Even Lauren Conrad's line was better than this. Funniest quote from Heidi:"When we were in school, I was the designer, and [Lauren Conrad] was in, like, product development." But Heidi, didn't you drop out of school after the first day? At least Lauren still goes to school and works in the fashion industry. (Photo: Gossip Girls)

Nina Garcia: What happened

It looks like Nina was let go as fashion director at Elle but was offered the smaller role of editor-at-large. If she accepts, she will still be a judge on the next season of Project Runway, but if she doesn't...well, nothing is clear on that. And all that talk about crying interns and boxes strewn across the floor was false. Too bad. I like the idea of high drama at a fashion magazine, but this is Elle we're talking about, not Vogue. Oooohhhh, I so went there.
I think that Nina is replaceable at the magazine and on the show. Her column didn't interest me and anyone can be a judge on a reality TV show (paging Twiggy!) But I am interested to see whether she will choose to leave the magazine for good or if she can swallow her pride and accept the smaller role. (Photo: Boston.com)
