Vogue May 2008

Why does it look like Gwyneth Paltrow is resting on the head of a Cylon? Cover choice is safe and non-controversial unlike last month. In other words: Boring! Also why does her face look so stiff and artificial? I wish they would put models on the cover not actresses who no one really cares about. What is so interesting about Gwyneth Paltrow and what has she contributed to fashion recently? Please put Natalia back on the cover or at least Stam or Gemma. Any model would do. Coming soon: Fashion Week reviews and interviews

I'll be posting my reviews of collections from L'Oreal Fashion Week F/W 2008. I know that fashion week happened in March but my blog didn't exist then. I'll also be posting my interview with Canadian model Simona McIntyre, who opened the Evan Biddell show at fashion week. The reviews and my article on Simona will also be appearing in a new fashion website, fashionistas.ca (I'll let you know when the site goes live.)

I'll also be posting an interview with newcomer Toronto designer Natasha Ferro, whose amazing collection closed Toronto Alternative Fashion Week. Natasha is a friend of mine who graduated from Ryerson's fashion program and she is so freakin talented it's crazy. Not only does she design clothes but she also designs and makes beautiful jewellery in her own spare time.

P.S. Can you spot me in the photo?

The jodhpur: Stay on the horseback rider please

I thought that the jodhpur would stay on the Paris catwalk. Unfortunately I was wrong. It seems that the Gap thinks it can convince those who are not models to get our fat thighs into these things.
The latest advertising campaign has Coco Rocha (well at least they got that right) wearing a long sweater, a collared shirt, a cute belt and a pair of jodhpurs. Of course since Coco is rail thin they look fucking fantastic on her. But can you picture the rest of us fatties wearing these? I am anxious to see if this will become a trend. I am guessing not. Too many women still love their leggings. However I think I will drop into the Gap and try them on just to make sure that I will look ridiculous. (Photo: Gap)

Gisele engaged?

Page Six is reporting that Ms. Bundchen was wearing a humongous diamond on her left hand, proclaiming "Tom [as in Brady] bought it for me at Tiffany's!" Well at least the man has good taste. But Tom Brady, really? Gisele you could do better! I miss the good old days when you were with Leo DiCaprio. Kind of off topic but this guy I work with insists that Leo is gay and that he dates models as a cover. I do not believe it. Gisele wouldn't do that! She can have any guy she wants so why would she date a guy who's covering his sexuality? Unless she got paid a lot. But still, Leo and Bar forever.

Kind of related update: Apparently Gisele is going to unleash her acting chops on the fourth Austin Powers movie. After seeing her stunning performance in The Devil Wears Prada, I cannot wait to see what she can come up with. "What exactly is she wearing?" was our favorite line in the whole movie. You go Gisele!

Please stop using these dresses

I am so sick of seeing the painted Dolce and Gabbana dress and the armour-like Balenciaga dress in every magazine for the past couple of months. Yes, they are both beautiful and fashion-forward, but do we have to see them in every edition of Vogue, Harper's and Elle? How about some diversity? I realize that the dresses are from the S/S 2008 collection and it is Spring now but I wish magazines would be a bit more creative and stop copying each other. I'm tired of seeing the same designers in every magazine. How about something new? Just because UK Vogue is showing the D&G dress doesn't mean every other Vogue edition should feature it so that they fit in. It is a bit disappointing to see the same thing in every issue. It's hard to imagine that the editors love the dresses that much. Or are they running out of new ideas? Maybe they should start looking to the streets to get inspiration and not from each other. Chanel Iman

Love her. Love the little red riding hood coat. Love the Chanel Cambon bag (I have it! I can relate!) Love the crinkly boots. Damn I wish I had her legs. (Photo: Teen Vogue)
