Romeo and Coco

I always look forward to the December issue of Vogue because they usually include a fairy tale editorial (ie. Alice in Wonderland) filled with beautiful costumes, a large cast that includes actors or designers, and a romantic setting. This year they went with Romeo and Juliet, starring model Coco Rocha as Juliet and dancer Roberto Bolle as Romeo. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, the photos are very romantic with soft lighting, thick tapestries, draped flowers, haunting stone sets and gorgeous long gowns by Christian Lacroix, Nina Ricci, Alexander McQueen and Vera Wang. Actors John Lithgow and Estelle Parsons play Friar Laurence and the Nurse, respectivelly.

I love Coco's expressions; this woman should be an actress. You can see the angst, the longing, the passion and the pain on her face. She makes me want to fall in love with someone forbidden.

Did Coco Rocha wear my hair?

Style.com has this awesome video of Coco Rocha backstage at Matthew Williamson talking about her "model secrets." These little tidbits include: Where models hide from photographers/videographers, what to say to a casting agent who hasn't had his caffeine fix and how they get all that gorgeous hair. Apparently their extensions are real hair, meaning that if you have recently cut off long locks of hair and donated it, it could be on the head of your favorite model right now.

Coco Rocha shows us her faces

Thought Tyra's seven ways to smile was great modeling? Think again. Coco Rocha shows us all the poses she can think of in 38 seconds for New York magazine. And this is just off the top of her head. The girl is a natural.

Straight off the runway: The Cinema Society with Chanel and Vogue Host a Screening of "The Duchess"

Keira Knightley wowed me with her beautiful Chanel Haute Couture cocktail dress. She's been making some very good choices on the red carpet lately.



Coco Rocha rocked it out in a Chanel Pre-fall frock.



Designer Tory Burch nearly out dresses Keira in this beautiful black Chanel Fall 2008 dress with ruffled detail. She finished off her looks with a pair of YSL 'Tribute' sandals.



Bee Shaffer looked sweet and innocent in a strapless Oscar de la Renta frock. Her royal blue bow peep toes are lovely.

New York Fashion Week: Rag & Bone

I don't know much about Rag & Bone designed by British duo David Neville and Marcus Wainwright but when I saw Sasha P looking very hot in lots of dark eyeliner, stringy hair and a black leather jacket then I had to know more.

Music is a huge influence on the designers' collections and their S/S 09 collection took cues from punk rock with lots of leather, zippers, studded belts, skinny ankle pants and slogan t-shirts.

All the models looked mean; if they had a guitar in hand, they would break it; if they had a mic in front of them, they would scream obscenities. I wish I could have been there.

There were also some mod-ish outfits with tight blazers, mini skirts, barely-there dresses and cool flowery prints.

Doesn't he look like he wants to kill you? The only reason I'm not running away to save my life is his awesome metallic jacket and ankle pants. Did Katie Holmes start this trend?


I predict that exposed zippers on pants are the next hot trend. They are stylish, "punk" without looking like a wannabe and look great on skinny pants. It wouldn't look good on non-skinny girls though. Just sayin.... And suspenders need a comeback now!


I don't want to know how the model got inside these pants but the effect is ridiculously hot. She looks like she just doesn't give a fuck.


This is way better than all the ill-fitted suits I see walking up Bay Street. This look is hot without being inappropriate. I love that ties are making a comeback but in a Avril Lavigne way.


Freja looks smoking sexy in that sheer black blouse and metallic cropped pants.


Coco! Metallic blue takes a lot of guts to wear, especially if the colour is on most of your outfit.


Lily looks ready to rock out. She would be the hottest groupie.

New York Fashion Week show cards

Can you believe that New York Fashion Week is only a week away? I cannot wait to pore over the runway photos, behind-the-scenes interviews and catty gossip straight from designers' mouths.
Models.com has all the show cards from the big agencies hoping to get their girls (newbies and vets) into the best shows. The cards are very important for new models who need to make a good first impression. If they don't get into New York shows it will be hard for them to continue into the London, Milan and Paris shows, so these show cards better be hot.
I've already posted a bunch of show cards from Marilyn so here are my picks from the other agencies.

Inna
Inna looks playful and coy in this photo. It makes me want to get to know what's behind that hair. I can definitely see her in Marc Jacobs.

Damaris is gorgeous and has legs that go on forever. I would kill for her legs. And her face.

Synchronized swimming, Coco Rocha style

I haven't been watching any of the Beijing Olympics, save for men's volleyball, and only because it's hot to watch men spike balls. But Coco Rocha writhing about in a bathtub full of flowers does it for me a lot more than to watch swimming on TV. I just picked up Numéro June-July (I love how Canada is always two months behind the rest of the world) and lo-and-behold, my favorite model was staring up at me from a watery bed. Love the gothic/vampy makeup.

Style.com gets a makeover

What do you guys think of the new style.com?
I like that it looks a lot cleaner and it's easier to navigate than the old version. That being said, I don't like all of the white space; it's very similar to the blog-zine formats you see on countless other sites. I wish they took more chances with the colour and design. However the good thing about white space is that there is more room for beautiful photographs (like in the pic above) and videos and more user-friendly galleries. I am looking forward to their new features.
But guess what?? My favorite model in the world, Coco Rocha, is working for the site as a video host!

Elle Canada got it right

You may remember how disappointed I was with FASHION magazine's "spread" of Coco Rocha.
Imagine my total happiness and surprise when I picked up the Sept. issue of Elle Canada and there was Coco in all her glory with a full editorial spread. None of this "two photos only" business. Unfortunately, the website doesn't have photos of the spread, and my scanner is broken so I guess you're just going to have to buy it yourself.
The spread features Canadian designers interpreting the colour black. Coco is fabulous as usual; creating unique and fun poses. She always knows how to make clothes look their absolute best; the way she contorts her body into new shapes make you look at the clothes in a different way. This spread really captures her spirit and makes the designers' clothes look beautiful.

My gripe with FASHION magazine

When I saw that my favorite model Coco Rocha was on the cover of FASHION magazine, I almost peed with excitement. Normally I am not a huge fan of FASHION mag's covers; they can sometimes be stale, uninspiring and even amateurish. But this cover really popped out; the vivid colours were beautiful and Coco's pose was so natural and high-fashion. This cover is a definite hit.
Unfortunately my excitement turned into severe disappointment and frustration when I saw that Coco didn't have an editorial spread. There were only two photographs from the shoot and then a bunch of small family and friends photographs.
To the editors of FASHION magazine: This is Coco Rocha; one of the top models in the biz right now and she's Canadian. How can you fuck this up? For Canada's top fashion mag to not give Coco the editorial she deserves is insane. Was it because you couldn't fit the photos in the mag? Screw the other articles and editorials; Coco takes precedence. It's embarrassing that international magazines give her lots of pages but her own country's top fashion magazine can't do her that service. Where's the love?

Another gripe: The story was boring and didn't have any new information. Everyone who follows fashion knows that Coco was found while she was competing at an Irish dance competition. Isn't there something new to talk about? Couldn't the reporter come up with anything better than this?
I hope that next time FASHION mag puts a model on its cover, it gives her more than two photos. After all, fashion mags are supposed to be about the editorials.
